Good times, good times
A coworker bought us a book of works by Thomas Kinkaide Painter of Light© as a gag gift, and now we’re all engaged in a game of “spot the negro.” So far, no winners. Apparently, when it comes to idyllic landscapes, cottages, small town street scenes and pictures called “Stairway to Paradise,” whites only, please.

A great recollection from Graydon Carter →
“I can recall a lunch in 1991, when I was editing The New York Observer, and he and Aimée Bell, his longtime editor, and I got together for a quick bite at a restaurant on Madison, no longer there. Christopher’s copy was due early that afternoon. Pre-lunch canisters of scotch were followed by a couple of glasses of wine during the meal and a similar quantity of post-meal cognac. That was...

Polemicist Who Slashed All, Freely, With Wit →
Christopher Hitchens wrote in the tradition of Thomas Paine and George Orwell and trained his sights on targets as various as Henry Kissinger, the British monarchy and Mother Teresa. He may have been at times insufferable about them, but he was as clear-headed in his principles as any man I think I’ve ever read or heard. Bravo, sir.
